During Islamic time, the prosperity of Isfahan flourished in the Safavid dynasty, when Shah Abbas the Great chose it as the capital of his dynasty.

It is good to mention that this square was built by Shah Abbas the Great during the Safavid era to show the glory and power of Isfahan City in this dynasty. Moreover, Religion, economics, politics, and science are encompassed all four sides of the square. This square has been used for performing numerous festivals and ceremonies, some governmental and some popular. 

Jameh mosque of Abbassi

Among the thousand years of construction on religious buildings and mosques in Iran, the Jameh Mosque of Abbassi is one of the most prominent and picturesque mosques in Iran and even in the world. Even after four centuries, this unique phenomenon of fine and delicate art has the power to strike the viewer with awe. The 27 m high portal is predominantly blue and embellished with seven-colored tiles and faience mosaics, which has become one of the most elegant mosques in the world with its unique features of Islamic and Iranian architecture.

 

Vank Church

The most important and famous historical church of Jolfa considering its architecture, decorations, and wall paintings is Vank Church. The dome of this church is similar to Islamic mosques and only the cross on the top of the dome distinguishes this building from mosques. The painting and gilding of the dome have annexed beauty to this church.

Si-o-se Pol 

Si-o-se Pol is a unique masterpiece constructed in the era of Shah Abbas the Great and was built at the expense of his well-known commander, Alaverdi Khan. Moreover, this eye-catching bridge is also known as Jolfa, Chaharbagh, and Alavardi Khan. This is the longest bridge in Isfahan with 295-meter length and 14.5 width.

 

Chehel Sotun Palace 

The Chehel Sotun Palace is one of the Persian gardens that have been inscribed in the world heritage UNESCO. This garden is one of the most beautiful recreational gardens for foreign ambassadors and travelers. The Iranian and European painting style on the walls of this marvelous palace catches the attention of every tourist. The reason for naming this palace ‘Forty Columns’ is for the beliefs of infinity and abundance in forty numbers in different cultures and religions.
